The Columbia Association Strategic Plan is a dynamic document which is updated periodically as the CA Board of Directors and CA Senior Executive Team work together on strategy making.

Each year in May, at the annual Board/Staff strategy planning retreat, the strategic mission, strategic vision, strategic goals, and strategic issue radar screen elements of CA's Strategic Plan are reviewed and updated where appropriate.

The Planning & Strategy Committee of the CA Board has responsibility for and oversight of the development of the Strategic Plan. Each year in May, when the Board updates the Strategic Issue Radar Screen and identifies the "priority" key strategic issues for the year, the Planning & Strategy Committee delegates the development of "Strategy Sketches" to the four main CA Board operating committees. The committees work throughout the year on developing these "Strategy Sketches" and, as those sketches are approved by the CA Board, they are made part of the Strategic Plan and posted online. As the committees do further work on enhancing those sketches, and as those enhancements are approved by the Board, the sketches are updated online.

The Board approved Strategy Sketches provide direction to the CA staff as they work on addressing the key strategic issues.
