Out in the Open (Space): Week of November 30, 2020
November 29, 2020
Here’s what’s going on this week in Open Space:
- Contractors will start a three-week long project (weather-permitting) to refurbish Pathways in Oakland Mills starting Monday, November 30. Signage will be posted to help pedestrians avoid these areas while the work is going on. The affected Pathways are marked in red on the map below.
- Crews will be removing and replacing ORBR-01 bridge off of Rumsey Road this week. The section of Pathway connected to that bridge will also be closed during the duration of the project. Installation of the new bridge should be completed within a week (weather permitting).
- If you’d like to learn more about how solar power can help you reduce your carbon footprint and save you money, CA is co-hosting a virtual solar information session on December 10. The interactive forum starts at 6:30pm. Click here to register at energyprograms.civicworks.com/RSVP-Columbia.
- A reminder that about 80 trees in Long Reach will be removed over the next few weeks. This will specifically take place from April Brook Circle to Summer Cloud and from Summer Cloud to Dry Stone Gate. The trees being taken down are either dead or dying due to the Emerald Ash Borer.
- Two bioretention facilities are under construction in Wilde Lake, specifically the Open Space adjacent to Faulkner Station. These facilities are designed to catch and treat stormwater runoff that has been causing erosion and some backyard and basement flooding for residents.
- CA Energy Manager Jeremy Scharfenberg talks us through the air exchange rates at our fitness facilities, illustrating one of the many ways CA is committed to creating the safest environment possible for our members.
- CA Watershed Manager John McCoy, along with some of our neighbors, captured these pictures of wildlife on our Open Space. We’d love to see your photos too! Send them to OpenSpace.ResourceRequests@ColumbiaAssociation.org or post them on social media with @ColumbiaAssn or #columbiaassociation.
