Parents aren’t the only ones who can enjoy a good workout at the gym. Thanks to Columbia Association’s broad menu of fitness opportunities, kids of all ages can get exercise while having fun.

Take a look at five ways CA brings fitness and kids together:

KidSpace Fit Club

KidSpace Fit Club is for children ages 7 to 13. Kids participate in a variety of enjoyable workouts and fitness-oriented games. These structured movement activities encourage active play and making friendships!

The next six-week session begins in March. Sessions take place Wednesdays and Thursdays, 4:30-5:30pm at Columbia Gym. Attendance is $40 for KidSpace members and $50 for all others.

For more information, call 410-531-8984. For a complete calendar of KidSpace events and other exciting opportunities, visit ColumbiaAssociation. org/kidspace.

Kick It in a Martial Arts Class

Children enjoy CA’s martial arts program because it’s fun. Parents have found that it helps instill discipline, self- respect and character development.

CA offers seven class options, with specific disciplines like Aikido, Judo, Kung Fu and Tae Kwon Do, as well as age-appropriate classes for children as young as 2. The classes at Columbia Athletic Club and Columbia Gym offer a variety of benefits, including self-defense, physical fitness and mental tranquility.

One of the great benefits of CA’s martial arts classes is that anyone can try a class for free. And though many other martial arts schools require a yearlong contract, CA’s classes are offered on a month-to-month basis.

Wheel Around the Skate Arena

Located at Supreme Sports Club, the Skate Arena has more than 12,000 square feet of pure maple wood — plus a state-of-the-art sound system that plays the perfect tracks to keep you grooving while you skate.

The Skate Arena’s Friday and Saturday night sessions have live DJs, and Friday also has a laser light show! Daytime sessions are also available. Admission is free for CA Fit&Play, Golf Fit&Play, and 1Fit members (Supreme Sports Club only).

The arena is available both for rentals and open skate sessions.

Have a (Basket) Ball

This idea is a slam dunk. Parents and children ages 5 to 13 can hoop it up at Open Gym Basketball. Enjoy some one- on-one quality time with your child while shooting hoops — a great way for the whole family to stay healthy!

Children must be accompanied by an adult to participate. Open Gym Basketball takes place Sundays, 8:30-9:30am at the Supreme Sports Club KidSpace Youth Arena.

Make a Splash

Children will have a healthy, fun time at Junior Gym and Swim. Kids work up a sweat in the gym, then cool off in the pool.

Parents drop off at KidSpace and pick up by the pool. Children must wear a bathing suit under their clothes. This program is available for children ages 3 to 6 (no diapers) and is offered Tuesdays from 10am to noon at Supreme Sports Club (410-381-7559) and Thursdays from 10am to noon at Columbia Gym (410-531-8984). This program is free for KidSpace members and $8 per child for all others.
