Every year, local teens have the opportunity to travel to France or Spain for two weeks, where they see amazing sights, experience international cultures, and enhance their French or Spanish language skills through CA’s Sister Cities High School Student Exchange Program.
Howard County high school students and their parents can learn more about the 2020 exchange trips at information sessions on Wednesday, January 15 and Tuesday, February 11. Each will be held from 7-8pm at CA Headquarters, 6310 Hillside Court.
No need to RSVP.
Each summer, two groups of Howard County high school students travel to Europe in July to stay for two weeks in one of Columbia’s sister cities in France or Spain. Each student lives for two weeks with a teen they are matched with in either Cergy-Pontoise (near Paris, France) or Tres Cantos (near Madrid, Spain), then host their European counterparts here in Howard County for the last two weeks of July.
Students who are taking Spanish or French in high school level III or above (or are native speakers) can participate in the summer 2020 program.
The program fee is $700 for CA residents and $850 for nonresidents, excluding airline tickets. Airline tickets in 2020 will range from $1,000 to $1,400 per participant. There are excellent scholarships that cover 100% of the airfare and reduce the fee by half for students who qualify. The application deadline is Friday, February 21, 2020. The application packet is online at ColumbiaAssociation.org/teenexchange.
