Women Who Lead

The Baltimore Metropolitan Council and Columbia Association invite you to a screening of “Citizen Jane: Battle for the City,” the story of a particularly prescient woman who started a revolution in urban planning.

In 1960, Jane Jacobs’ book “The Death and Life of Great American Cities” explored the consequences of modern reconfiguration of cities, sending shockwaves through the architecture and planning worlds. Jacobs’ activism involved many fights in mid-century New York to stop master builder Robert Moses from running roughshod over the city.

The film retraces the battles for the city as personified by Jacobs and Moses, as urbanization moves to the very front of the global agenda. This film sets out to examine the New York City of today through the lens of one of its greatest champions, educating decision makers and making change for livable streets in their communities.

This is the first on a series of Baltimore Metropolitan Council events being planned on the topic of “Women Who Lead.” This series begins Monday, March 26 at 7pm with this screening at the Owen Brown Interfaith Center, 7246 Cradlerock Way, Columbia. For more information, call 410-381-2000.
