Electrostatic Sprayers and 24/7 Disinfecting Efforts
If you’ve been in any of Columbia Association’s (CA) fitness clubs since our reopening, you may have noticed something resembling a simple pump that kinda looks straight out of the GhostBusters.
These are hospital-grade electrostatic sprayers – yet another line of defense in CA’s arsenal of tools to protect your health and safety. These top-of-the-line sprayers attack germs, bacteria and viruses, decontaminating surfaces more effectively than conventional sprayers.
How, you might ask? Let’s take a look into exactly how electrostatic sprayers work their disinfectant magic…
How electrostatic sprayers work
Perhaps the biggest benefit to electrostatic sprayers is that they apply a positive charge to liquid disinfectants as they pass through the nozzle. Translation?
As per the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), “the positively charged disinfectant is attracted to negatively charged surfaces, which allows for efficient coating of hard nonporous surfaces.”
Essentially, these sprayers apply chemicals in a more controlled, efficient way… one that completely coats surfaces to reduce virus spread. They also get the job done more quickly, up to 50% faster in some cases.
Airlines and hospitals have been deploying electrostatic sprayers to meet their needs for years now. In CA’s fitness clubs, the electrostatic sprayers are now used on equipment and high-touch surfaces several times a day. Team members rotate throughout the building during all operating hours. They’re specifically deployed before senior hours at Columbia Athletic Club and after public roller skate sessions at Supreme Sports Club.
Overnight, cleaning crews handle more intensive cleaning when the clubs are closed.
“Basically, electrostatic sprayers disinfect more evenly and efficiently than other options,” says Tavia Patusky, Supreme Sports Club general manager. “These sprayers are a tool we’re proud to deploy to protect you during this time.”
Disinfecting is a 24/7 effort
These electrostatic sprayers aren’t the only additional safety measure in place. Our fitness clubs use them in addition to regularly cleaning high-touch areas with EPA-approved disinfectant.
Plus, every member coming into our facilities also receives their own spray bottle and rag to wipe down equipment before and after use, limiting the amount of shared bottles around the club. Any used spray bottles are sanitized before another member uses them.
We so appreciate you all doing your part, from social distancing to adhering to the mask policy and kindly respecting our mandatory temperate checks. We’re all in this together!
