What Moms Should Know About Postnatal Fitness

January 28, 2022

Ready to return to your pre-baby fitness levels?

According to CA personal trainer and group fitness instructor, Tahis Blue, it’s natural to want to jump right back in to your old workout routine. However, as a pre- and post-natal fitness specialist, she also knows that women tend to underestimate the trauma their bodies go through delivering a baby.

Blue is passionate about teaching moms ways to ease back into exercise safely, with an emphasis on building core strength and connecting to the breath. Her upcoming two-series Postnatal Fitness workshop will focus on exercises and movements to support moms for life. Anyone who has been cleared by a doctor for exercise can benefit, whether your child is six months old or six years old.

These sessions will take place at Columbia Athletic Club (Studio 2) on Saturday, February 26 and Saturday, March 5 (12-1:30pm). To register, visit the front desk at CA’s fitness clubs or call the Columbia Athletic Club (410-730-6744).

Importance of the core & breath

The two-series Postnatal Fitness workshop will emphasize:

  • How to strengthen your core and pelvic floor after pregnancy and childbirth
  • The power breathing has on postpartum recovery and overall strength
  • Tips for returning to fitness classes and training

Blue will share tips for connecting to your breath and core — which not only enhances your strength and power, but helps with stress management and keeping calm when things feel out of control. She encourages participants to come dressed in something comfortable.

“Breathing and core connection are for everyone. No matter if you’ve had a baby or not, it’s important to know how to manage intra-abdominal pressure and function in your core. Why? Because everything starts here. Everyone has organs in their body supported by their core. When you stand upright, this is supported by your core. And when it comes to your breath, it powers your movement, your mental space and your life.” -Tahis Blue
