The Cluster Leader has a legal duty to protect the safety of people in an assigned area, and a professional obligation to prevent potential accidents by enforcing the rules and regulations of an aquatic setting and to react to any emergencies that occur.

Cluster Leaders are also responsible for coordinating in-service training for their staff, maintaining a safe and clean pool environment, processing end-of-night paperwork, meeting approved budgeted numbers, and submitting pool guard schedules, as well as attending weekly management team meetings.

Cluster Leader candidates should have a minimum of three years of aquatics experience or have been a Columbia Association Site Manager in summer 2018. Cluster Leaders must also have an Active Ellis and Associates Guard License and must be a Maryland certified pool/spa operator.

The water screening consists of the following:
– 200-yard swim without resting
– Two minutes of treading water while holding both hands out of the water
– Retrieve a 10-pound diving brick from a minimum depth of 8 feet of water, or the deepest part of the pool (up to 12 feet), and bring it to the surface.
