|Job Type||Full Time|
|Division||School Age Services|
Columbia Association’s School Age Services programs strive to provide affordable and enriching opportunities for school-age youth during their non-school hours in order to meet the school-age child care needs of the community. We operate before and after school care in 20 elementary schools in Howard County. Our programs are designed in accordance with the guidelines and recommendations set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the National After-School Association (NAA).
Students are offered a variety of activities that may include art, science, music, dramatic play and various physical activities and games. Developmental levels of children are taken into account while planning these activities, with developmentally appropriate practices utilized as needed. Our programs are structured in a manner that facilitates opportunities for individual and group participation, striking a balance between self-selected and staff-directed activities with both quiet and active periods.
The School Age Services Manager is responsible for the implementation of the philosophy, policies, procedures, and operations, exercising responsible professional judgment and technical skill. This includes responding to parent concerns and reports of accidents, taking appropriate responsive action where necessary. The manager must work closely with the Maryland Department of Education to ensure licensing compliance of all sites as well as working with the school principals to ensure a seamless transition for participants.
The manager is responsible for the development and implementation of quality standards, evaluation, revision of forms and policies, and all other activities, which add to the overall quality of the program. Staff supervision includes direct supervision of the School Age Services directors in their development, coordination and oversight of the before and after school care programs as well as the development of pre-service and in-service training, and staff meetings. Budgetary responsibilities include creating, planning, monitoring and managing the division’s operating budget of approximately $2 million. This is a challenging position, involving considerable responsibility, complexity and variety.
– Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in education, recreation, child psychology, child development, education or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
– Minimum of five years of multi-site experience in supervisory or administrative capacity in the area of community recreation or childcare.
– Professional skill in planning, organizing, and supervising a wide variety of childcare programs.
– Thorough knowledge of MSDE regulation, NAEYC and NAA standards and the Americans with Disability Act.
– Experience managing operating budgets of at least $1 million.
This position comes with a full benefits package, including health, dental, vision, short term disability, leave time, 401K and more.
