The Racquet Club at Hobbit’s Glen Renovation
The Racquet Club at Hobbit’s Glen was built nearly 26 years ago. While it’s still a great tennis facility, it’s beginning to show its age. To help improve playing conditions, the courts will undergo three phases of renovation to improve their condition, irrigation system and drainage.
The renovations were originally scheduled to begin this summer. In an effort to prevent disrupting visitors to the tennis courts, pool and golf course, the project has been postponed and will instead begin this fall, with further work continuing into 2020. Each phase will focus on two courts at a time, with those courts completely closed and rebuilt during the renovation period.
When
Phase 1 begins late September/early October. Phase 2 and 3 are tentatively slated for 2020. Each phase will focus on two courts at a time, with those courts completely closed and rebuilt during the renovation period.
What
The improvements planned for The Racquet Club at Hobbit’s Glen include:
-
- New underground irrigation system: The new system will equally distribute water to all areas of the court. A properly irrigated court creates a softer surface to play on, which is safer for players and enhances movement on the court. It also creates a better bounce for the tennis ball.
- New Har-Tru playing surface: Har-Tru is a unique clay surface that provides many benefits to tennis players, including reducing the risk of injuries, keeping the surface an average of 20% cooler than hard courts, and absorbing water quickly — players can be on a clay court in a matter of minutes after a rain shower!
- New fencing
