Having a baby is a joyous occasion — but it can also be a stressful time. And with all of the changes in your life, finding time for your own health so that you can look and feel good can seem impossible.
It’s not impossible. We can help.
If you’ve recently given birth, are currently pregnant or are expecting to be expecting soon, Columbia Association offers specialized classes designed to help you maintain your changing body. All potential participants should consult with their physician before enrolling in any exercise class.
Columbia Optimal Health for My Baby & Me helps new or expectant moms look and feel their best.
The 12-week program combines exercise, nutrition and lifestyle improvement. It offers ways to physically prepare for childbirth, eat right and lower the stresses that can accompany motherhood. Participants receive a Revive membership at Haven on the Lake, CA’s mind-body wellness retreat, as well as nutrition counseling and behavioral wellness coaching.
All participants need to have a referral from an obstetrics practitioner. Scholarships are available for qualified participants thanks to the Howard County Health Department and the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Find out more at ColumbiaAssociation.org/mybaby.
That’s not the only program CA has to help pregnant women and new moms live their best lives.
Haven on the Lake offers Baby Bliss yoga for pre- and postnatal moms. preparing the body for labor and recovery, and also helping you reclaim the energy and vitality that expectant and recent moms sometimes need.
Baby Bliss combines controlled breathing, meditation and fundamental postures with gentle flowing movements. For your well-being and the well-being of your baby, please consult your healthcare professional prior to taking Baby Bliss. The class is free for Revive members; a fee is required for all others. Learn more at HavenOnTheLake.org.
CA also has a variety of personal training options to fit your lifestyle, increase your energy and get the results you want, including a private hour and half-hour sessions, semi-private sessions (2-3 people) and small group training.
New clients and anyone who hasn’t purchased personal training in a year are eligible for a special rate: three sessions for $149. To learn more about this special, schedule your free Fitness Consultation at the front desk or ask to speak with one of our fitness training supervisors.
In addition to personal training, CA has a team of nutrition professionals who can make a difference in anyone’s performance — whether that’s weight loss or working toward better health. Learn more at ColumbiaAssociation.org/personaltraining.
And to make things easier, we can watch your child while you’re working out. KidSpace is an interactive play area geared for children from 6 weeks to 13 years old, located at Columbia Gym, Haven on the Lake, Supreme Sports Club, and Columbia Athletic Club.
KidSpace memberships are available. The drop-in fee for non-KidSpace members (who still have a membership with CA’s fitness clubs) is $8 per day for up to two hours of care. Learn more at ColumbiaAssociation.org/kidspace or by calling 410-730-1801.
And when your baby is a little older, CA also offers a great way to spend time together and learn water safety through Little & Me aquatics classes.
These classes introduce your child to water adjustment, safety and the basics of swimming through a series of songs, games and interactive activities. Parent/caregiver participation is required with infants or toddlers who are not yet comfortable in the water, and do not have the ability to hold themselves above the water or on the wall.
The class is recommended for children ages 6 months to 3 years and offered at Columbia Gym, Phelps Luck Pool and Swansfield Pool. For more information, visit ColumbiaAssociation.org/swimming-lessons.
