The swings of things: Columbia SportsPark/SkatePark has mini-golf, batting cages and more

By Tripp Laino, October 2017

While the warm summer breezes might be gone for awhile, that doesn’t mean you have to hibernate. There are still great outdoor activities to enjoy at Columbia SportsPark/SkatePark.

Columbia SportsPark is ideal for family fun — particularly if you have a Play membership with CA (any membership including Play in the name, including Play, CA Fit&Play, 5Day Golf&Play, and Golf Fit&Play).

All Play membership types receive free mini-golf, unlimited batting at the batting cages from 6-8pm (when SportsPark is open for those hours), and free admission to Columbia SkatePark. You don’t need to be a member, however, to enjoy Columbia SportsPark/SkatePark. Prices are available at ColumbiaAssociation.org/sportspark.

“It’s a one-stop place to take the kids for family fun,” said Lance Kerr, the SportsPark’s general manager. “With mini-golf, batting cages and Columbia SkatePark, we really have something everyone can enjoy.”

The SportsPark/SkatePark is open from noon to 8pm on October weekends, noon to 6pm on November weekends, and noon to 4pm on December weekends, weather permitting. Call 410- 715-3054 to check availability.

Take a swing

It doesn’t matter if you prefer to take cuts in the batting cages or line up the perfect putt — you can do both at the SportsPark.

The batting cages offer multiple pitch speeds for both baseball and softball players, so you can hone your skills for fall ball, keep your skills sharp for next year or just have a good time with family and friends.

If you prefer things even slower than slow-pitch, the SportsPark’s mini-golf course has 18 holes featuring water and sand obstacles — just like CA’s real courses, Hobbit’s Glen and Fairway Hills. But on this smaller scale, everyone can get involved.

Kickflips and more!

Columbia SkatePark is great for anyone to shred — and if you’re new to the sport, Learn to Skate group lessons can teach you the basics, including how to safely fall and other fundamentals.

In intermediate classes, students will learn how to navigate ramps, perform curb tricks and other fun ways to coast through the SkatePark’s 15,000 square feet of ramps, walls, pipes, hubbies and stairs.

Seasoned instructors can also help you sharpen your skills with private lessons, so anyone can learn to skateboard. As with all the programs and amenities at CA, safety is key. Helmets are required at the SkatePark and batting cages, and a waiver must be signed before entrance. Elbow pads, knee pads and wrist guards are available for rent.

It’s party time!

Columbia SportsPark has party options for all ages and events — and you can leave the planning to us.

Businesses looking for a day of team- building and camaraderie can utilize

the space for four hours of unlimited mini-golf, batting cages, cornhole, volleyball and more. Family members of employees are welcome and additional amenities can be included depending on your company’s interest and budget. The SportsPark also has an audio system for playing music or making announcements.

Packages include additional options where outings can include a moon bounce, face painter and other forms of entertainment. Catering is also offered with an array of menu options to accommodate your budget.

Looking for the perfect spot to host your next birthday party, graduation or fun family get-together? The SportsPark also hosts three different themed parties: a do-it-yourself party, which offers either a round of mini-golf or six batting cage tokens for each guest (up to 20 included in the base package, but additional guests can be added), a moon bounce party or a mini-golf party.

Cake, pizza, paper products and planned activities will be waiting for you and guests. All you need to do is show up and enjoy the fun.
