Keep calm and bark on! CA’s Dog Day Afternoon returns on May 13

March 2, 2017

Keep calm and bark on! Columbia Association (CA) is excited to announce that it will be hosting the 10th annual Dog Day Afternoon on Saturday, May 13 from 10am to 2pm at Columbia DogPark. The park is located at 5901 Rivendell Lane, off Cedar Lane and adjacent to Cedar Lane Park, near the Harper’s Choice Village Center.

CA invites local canines — and their people — to a free afternoon of contests, treats, activities and lots of tail-wagging fun.

Dog lovers can enter their four-legged friends into the Tail-Wagging Contest; Most Fashionable Fashion Show; Biscuit-Eating Contest; and more. Additional entertainment may include raffles, music, food — yes, for dogs and for humans — pet demos, face painting, a moon bounce (for people only) and caricature artists.

Back by popular demand this year will be pet communications readings with pet communicator Emerald DuCoeur.

CA also will be selling official Dog Day Afternoon T-shirts for $10, or two for $15. Pet communications readings will be $10 for 10 minutes. Caricature drawings of your loveable four-legged friend are $5 for a black-and-white drawing and $10 for a color drawing. Microchipping will also be available for a minimal fee. Only cash will be accepted during Dog Day Afternoon. A portion of the proceeds will benefit a local animal-related nonprofit to be announced.

In addition, CA will be collecting items to be donated to the nonprofit, including:

  • canned cat and dog food
  • dry cat and dog food
  • soft treats and biscuit-type treats
  • new dog and cat toys (Kong-type indestructible toys are great!)
  • blankets and towels
  • buckle- or martingale-type collars
  • leashes

This free event also will feature local businesses and organizations that focus on the health, happiness and well-being of our beloved furry friends.

Through April 24, CA is accepting applications from local pet vendors and nonprofit organizations that benefit dogs. Interested persons should call 410-423-4102, email Christina.Pierre@ColumbiaAssociation.org or click here for a vendor application.

A rain date has been set for Saturday, May 20 from 10am to 2pm at Columbia DogPark.
